On January 10, 02:33 PM —

On January 11, 2025, 6:01 PM EST, the North Node enters Pisces and the South Node enters Virgo.  After traveling through Libra and Aries since July 17, 2023, the Lunar Nodes now begin to transit through the Virgo-Pisces axis, where they are going to remain until July 27, 2026. We are embarking on a year-and-a-half journey focused on integrating the spiritual and the mundane and learning to trust Divine Timing.

The ingress of the Nodes into Pisces and Virgo is particularly relevant for those of us with natal placements in Mutable signs and especially for those of us with their natal Nodes in Pisces and Virgo, who are going to experience their Nodal Return or Reverse Nodal Return. The people personally impacted by this transit are about to enter a karmic time of their lives characterized by strong evolutionary pressure and unexpected shifts of fate and growth opportunities.

The Lunar Nodes: Doors to Our Destiny

Lunar Nodes are two opposing points in space that mark the intersection of the Moon’s orbit with the Ecliptic, the apparent path of the Sun from our perspective on Earth. Placed at the same degree of opposing Zodiac signs, the Nodes move in retrograde motion most of the time. The Lunar Nodes are tightly connected with Eclipses, as when the luminaries meet or oppose each other close enough to the Nodes, Eclipses occur. These points are doors to our destiny and carry important lessons from this and other lifetimes.

In Vedic Astrology, the Lunar Nodes have a strong karmic connotation, they are considered shadow planets that bring us spiritual lessons. The South Node is referred to as Ketu while the North Node is referred to as Rahu. In Evolutionary Astrology, the Lunar Nodes have a central role too as they show our Soul’s evolutionary trajectory and inform us about where we come from and where we are going.

South Node and North Node: Our Evolutionary Path

The South Node or Ketu is seen as a symbol of our past, past lifetimes, and karma. It indicates skills and talents we develop naturally and easily master, as well as areas of life where we tend to feel stagnant, stuck, and dissatisfied. The North Node or Rahu is an energy we are called to gravitate toward, embody, embrace, and master. It feels foreign, unfamiliar, and uncomfortable, yet it is the direction we are meant to take in order to evolve and grow.

To do so, we are not supposed to completely leave the South Node behind but rather find a balance between these two energies and blend them together harmoniously. We can say we are supposed to grow out of the South Node, as it can be considered a comfort zone, and confront the demons and the fears that keep us from moving in the direction of the North Node.

From the Aries/Libra Axis to the Virgo/Pisces axis

For the past year and half, the South Node has been in Libra and the North Node has been in Aries. This transit brought the spotlight on our relationship patterns and our relational maturation journey, challenging us to address tendencies toward codependency and people-pleasing. The Libra South Node reflected a general tendency to rely on relationships as a means to gain validation, reassurance, and security, as well as an inclination to sacrifice ourselves, our needs, and our desires to secure connections or keep the peace.

During this time, we have been challenged to recognize how certain relationships and ways of being in relationships are no longer supporting our growth, even though they may still represent a source of comfort and security. This transit highlighted the need to find true harmony between independence and interdependence and challenged us to learn to be alone and connect with ourselves so that we can truly connect with another. The North Node in Aries reminded us that, in order to create authentic and healthy relationships, we must know who we are, honor our needs and desires, and be committed to our personal actualization journey.

As the spotlight moves from the Aries/Libra axis to the Virgo/Pisces axis, the spotlight goes on our relationship to work, service, and spirituality, as well as our health and healing journey.

South Node in Virgo: Find Beauty in Imperfection

The South Node’s transit through Virgo supports our willingness to approach work with dedication and devotion, motivates us to improve functionality and efficiency in our daily lives, and increases our awareness of the mind-body connection and the value of health.

While the South Node travels through Virgo, we have an opportunity to learn not to define ourselves according to what we do, what we produce, our job, our work, our social function, or our role as helpers and healers. We have an opportunity to focus less on doing and more on being and keep in mind that our value isn’t dependent on how much we do or produce.

The South Node in Virgo is an invitation to release the excessive need for control, perfectionism, and rigid planning, while still appreciating the value of order, organization, and effort. This combination of energies reflects a general inclination towards overthinking, overanalyzing, and overworrying.

When the South Node is in Virgo, there tends to be a high degree of rigidity, obsession with details, and a compulsive need to have everything under control. This transit reflects a tendency to be particularly critical of both ourselves and others, an inclination to blame ourselves and feel guilty for and ashamed of our mistakes, flaws, and shortcomings.

Ultimately, this transit teaches us to let go of impossible ideals and expectations, accept our humanness, and acknowledge the beauty in imperfection. Mercury is the planetary ruler of the South Node and for the upcoming year and a half Mercury’s placement will give us more information about how we may bring the South Node’s tendencies to an extreme.

North Node in Pisces: Power of Surrender

While the North Node is in Pisces, we are learning that it is okay not to have an answer, it is okay not to understand what is going on, it is okay not to know exactly where we are going. During this time, we are learning to be fully present, we are learning not to pressure ourselves to have everything figured out, we are learning to allow ourselves to make mistakes, to be less critical, to be non-judgmental, compassionate, and less hard on both ourselves and others. This transit reminds us that everything is inherently perfect as it is, even if in the present moment it doesn’t seem to make any sense.

The North Node in Pisces highlights the importance of learning to flow, trusting in Divine timing, and surrendering to Life’s unfolding. This transit teaches us that a fully surrendered state is very powerful: it is not a passive position, it is participatory and requires a high degree of self-awareness, presence, and attunement to both our internal reality and the external one. During this time, the invitation for us is to deepen our relationship to the intangible, the subtle, the unseen, and the spiritual dimension of life. We are asked to reorganize our priorities and keep in mind that without taking care of our spiritual and emotional health we won’t be able to have good physical or mental health.

Neptune is the planetary ruler of Pisces and is now at 27º of the sign, already conjunct with the North Node. This Neptune-North Node conjunction is already active and will continue to be the upcoming four months, exacerbating and emphasizing the invitation to embody Piscean energy. The Neptune-North Node conjunction is offering us an invitation to soften and anchor ourselves in faith, trust that everything is aligning and working out as it is meant to, and allow what has come to an end in our lives to dissolve.

North Node enters Pisces & South Node enters Virgo

The Nodes’ journey through Virgo and Pisces ultimately reminds us that the spiritual and the mundane aren’t separate but deeply intertwined. This transit encourages us to integrate our spiritual practice into our daily lives and approach our mundane routines and tasks with devotion, dedication, and a service-oriented mentality.

During this time, we are being asked to seek transcendence without escapism, explore ways of connecting with something greater than us through spiritual or creative practices, states of flow, any practices that are based on improvisation. This combination of energies challenges us to embrace disorder, disorganization, and chaos as part of life, not something to solve or fix.

The North Node in Pisces asks us to let go of excessive reliance on methods and techniques and follow our intuition more often. This transit asks us to release our attachment to our plan and trust Life’s plan, and challenges us to trust Life’s plan for us instead of scheduling everything and worrying about everything that can go wrong.
