On December 15, 3:56 PM EST, Mercury stations direct at 6º23’ of Sagittarius as the Full Moon in Gemini peaks. Both events offer us an opportunity to access a new level of understanding and drastically shift our perspective. The Messenger is going to remain in Sagittarius until January 8, 2025, inviting us to speak our truth and be true to who we are.
Mercury stationing direct in Sagittarius is especially meaningful for individuals born with planets or angles in Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces). Those personally impacted by Mercury’s shift of motion will be asked to make changes according to how their beliefs, worldviews, and opinions changed while Mercury was retrograde and will have chances to better understand the purpose of the experiences they had in the past weeks.
Mercury direct in Sagittarius and the Post-Shadow Phase
Just a few hours after the last Full Moon of 2024, Mercury, ruler of the Gemini Full Moon, ends its retrograde cycle in Sagittarius.
Mercury has been in retrograde motion since November 25: this transit gave us opportunities to slow down, tune in, and spend time reflecting on where we are going, rather than continuing to move forward following the inertia. Mercury retrograde in Sagittarius invited us to reorient, redirect, and refine our trajectory according to what is true and motivated us to redefine our beliefs and life philosophies.
As Mercury comes to a standstill and prepares to resume forward motion, we begin a phase of integration of the insights we got during the retrograde and we have an opportunity to take action according to how our perspective shifted. We are now entering the post-shadow phase of this Mercury retrograde cycle: for the third and final time, Mercury travels from 6º23’ to 22º40’ of Sagittarius and we wrap up the process that started in the early days of this transit, the beginning of November.
The post-shadow phase is going to end on January 3. During this time, new information will become available and we will have a chance to see more clearly the purpose of what happened while Mercury was retrograde.
Mercury direct in Sagittarius: Shift in Perspective
In the sign of Sagittarius, Mercury retrograde encouraged us to question our relationship to our beliefs, our habitual ways of thinking and making sense of reality, our way of searching for truth and purpose, and our way of attributing meaning to our experiences. It offered us an opportunity to strengthen our ability to think critically and independently.
Mercury’s shift of motion is an invitation to act in a way that reflects how we inwardly changed and how our thinking changed while Mercury was retrograde. While Mercury is direct, we have an opportunity to clarify any misunderstandings, have pending conversations, and focus on moving forward with projects and pursuits that slowed down during the past weeks.
In Sagittarius, Mercury’s shift of motion is a time to make sure we are making decisions aligned with our truth, that we are speaking our truth, and that we are being honest with ourselves. This event shift encourages us to move forward with a more thoughtful and intentional mindset. Together with the Gemini Full Moon, Mercury stationing direct catalyzes a shift in our perception and offers us an opportunity to see our reality from an entirely different perspective.

Mercury in aspect to Jupiter, Saturn, retrograde Mars, and Venus
Mercury is stationing direct while in a trine to retrograde Mars in Leo. This aspect is an opportunity to observe our relationship to self-assertion, direct communication, and acting on our ideas. Because Mars is now retrograde, the momentum has slowed down: even if Mercury is now direct, the invitation for us is to reflect on where we are going and why we want what we want, rather than taking action and moving forward right now. This aspect is, nevertheless, an opportunity to refine our intentions and strategies and a reminder to be courageous in our creative and learning endeavors.
Stationary Mercury is also forming a sextile to Venus in Aquarius. Their alignment supports interpersonal communications and facilitates our ability to get our ideas and feelings across. The Mercury-Venus sextile is a supportive influence that helps us solve conflicts with diplomacy and find new ways of connecting with others.
Mercury is also approaching an opposition to retrograde Jupiter in Gemini and a square to Saturn in Pisces. Jupiter and Saturn are approaching their second square, which goes exact on December 24. On December 26 and 27, Mercury aligns with them, actively participating in the Jupiter-Saturn square and creating a T-square pattern. This configuration highlights the tension between our expansive ideas, dreams, and visions and their practical implementation. The Jupiter-Mercury-Saturn T-square asks us to discern between what is realistic and what is overly idealistic, motivates us to confront any challenges that arise, and offers us opportunities to redefine our approach to materializing our visions.
