On August 11, 9:35 PM ET we experience a Full Super Moon at 19º21’ Aquarius. This lunation invites us to deepen our self-awareness and develop more objectivity around our behavior patterns and emotional needs.

The Moon is conjunct retrograde Saturn and square Uranus and the Lunar Nodes. This configuration points to the importance of developing emotional objectivity and liberating ourselves from situations of dependency, whether emotional, financial, or psychological.

The Leo-Aquarius axis: Exploring the Relationship between Individual & Community

Full Moons take place when the Moon opposes the Sun, transiting over the same degree of the opposite Zodiac sign. At this time of the month, the Moon receives the maximum amount of sunlight, and the rays of the Sun bring our awareness to something we normally cannot see. Full Moons always activate two opposing signs, in this case, the Leo-Aquarius polarity, and facilitate clarity around a process that started on the New Moon.

Two weeks ago, we experienced a New Moon in Leo that inspired us to set intentions around self-expression, creativity, and showing up as our true selves. These days, the Aquarius Full Moon encourages us to dare to share our creative expression with others and explore how we could serve our community in a way that generates authentic joy and personal fulfillment.

While Leo is about honoring the Self and its full expression, Aquarius reminds us of how the Self is part of a larger whole, and of the impact that our self-expression and creativity can have on other people. This axis invites us to reflect on the relationship between us and our community, encouraging us to look at feelings of social alienation and isolation, tendencies such as extreme individualism, and patterns such as abandoning ourselves to fit in or be accepted by others.

The Aquarius Super Full Moon activates the Saturn-Uranus square

This Super Full Moon comes while very contrasting energies are at play, reflecting a push-pull dynamic between a drive to remain safe and comfortable, staying in predictable situations that generate the illusion of security, and a drive to break free from the known and explore new paths and possibilities. If we aim to express our full potential and desire to discover what we are truly capable of, we must face the fear of the unknown and experience the empty space of total uncertainty between the breakdown of the old and the manifestation of the new.

The Full Moon is conjunct retrograde Saturn and square Uranus, respectively, the traditional and the modern rulers of Aquarius. The two planets have been squaring each other for the entirety of 2021 and a good part of 2022, and their interplay is in the spotlight these days. This configuration emphasizes the conflict between past and future, old and new, known and unknown, tradition and innovation, preservation and innovation. Saturn is about conditioning, while Uranus is about deconditioning: Uranus is always inspiring us to break free from the forces of conformity and suppression.

Saturn conjunct the Moon invites us to become more self-responsible, both socially and emotionally. Saturn is currently in retrograde motion and in the rebellious sign of Aquarius. Both factors indicate an inclination to question our conditioned patterns and responses, reflecting on the validity of the way we have structured our lives and on our relationship with inner and outer authority, with our boundaries and limitations, with the mainstream and the status quo. Saturn being retrograde facilitates and supports the process brought forth by Uranus, and inspires us to create new structures and new boundaries on which we can build a new, more authentic reality.

Aquarius & Uranus catalyze a Need to Break Free from Stagnation

Uranus always encourages us to quantum leap into the future. This planet wants us to break away from routines and ways of being that don’t support further growth, inspires us to reevaluate our definition of progress, and question the foundations we have built our lives upon.

Uranus’ transit through Taurus has been generating disruptions in our reality, challenging our economy and survival, destabilizing our existing sources of security, and inviting us to value our time, resources, and energy differently. This has brought an increasing number of people to rebel against hustle culture, obsolete values, and ways of making an income, inspiring us to change our priorities and to question the way we relate with our physical body and with the Earth. Uranus in Taurus has been catalyzing a slow and embodied revolution, encouraging us to stop living frantically, reconnect with our organic rhythms, and learn to listen more carefully to our bodies and Nature.

Moon-Uranus’ hard aspects come with a tendency to try to feel alive by instigating drastic change and generating excitement by rebelling from what is known, safe, and comfortable. While this alignment reflects strong emotional volatility, the simultaneous Moon-Saturn conjunction counterbalances it, as it corresponds to a necessity for predictability and order, a desire to remain in control of our emotional state, and a need to feel secure before acting on impulse. The tension between these contrasting forces is now, once again, in the spotlight.

The Lunar Nodes and Mars are in aspect to the Super Full Moon

Both the Aquarius Full Moon and the upcoming Virgo New Moon are going to square Mars, emphasizing the atmosphere of reactivity and impulsivity that has already been present for some weeks. Sun and Moon square Mars indicate a degree of inner turmoil that needs a physical outlet. To prevent unexpressed emotions and rage from somatizing, we are being encouraged to explore how to move the energy of anger through our system in ways that aren’t destructive.

The Grand Cross configuration generated by the squares between Sun in Leo, Moon in Aquarius, Uranus and North Node in Taurus, and South Node in Scorpio brings our attention to creative energy that is locked in and unable to manifest itself tangibly. Uranus conjunct the North Node of Destiny inspires us to become more self-reliant by breaking free from attachments that generate a sense of security yet don’t serve our individuation and don’t support the development of our authentic expression. This creative energy needs an outlet that can only be found when we liberate ourselves from outdated ideas about our capacities and we dare to fully trust our inner voice, even if we don’t rationally understand where it is leading us.

Venus enters Leo: Creative Growth

Also on August 11, 2022, 2:30 PM ET, Venus travels from Cancer to Leo. This shift increases our passion, our creativity, and our desire to be fully expressed. Venus in Leo is inviting us to attribute a deeper value to our self-actualization, fueling our willingness to invest in and trust our creative development. This shift begins a more socially oriented phase of our lives, compared to the previous weeks, and many of us could notice a desire to be in the spotlight in some way. In the sign of the Lion, the Goddess of Love expresses her energy with enthusiasm, pride, and warmth. The transit of Venus through Leo has the potential to support our vitality, increase our willingness to be seen and be recognized as special, and will magnify our desire to enjoy the pleasures of life.

At the end of the month and when the Virgo New Moon takes place, Venus is going to oppose Saturn and square Uranus, emphasizing once again the dynamics we have been talking about. The Venus-Uranus square will magnify a need for experimentation and freedom within relationships and could disrupt and destabilize connections that have stagnated into excessive predictability and routine. Changes in the global economy and financial markets are also very likely around this time. The Venus-Saturn opposition will offer us opportunities to overcome scarcity mindset, work on issues surrounding self-worth and self-value, and become aware of insecurities and fears that prevent us from manifesting healthy, reciprocal relationships and conditions of abundance and wealth.

Super Full Moon in Aquarius: Epiphanies and Awakenings

These days, change is happening extremely fast, both on a global scale and on a personal level. Since the Mars-Uranus-North Node conjunction, exact on August 1, we might have noticed feelings of urgency and restlessness, and an itch to change something in our lives. This Full Moon is likely to bring these feelings, once again, into the spotlight. It could catalyze new, unexpected awakenings and sudden epiphanies, bringing to light feelings of dissatisfaction and disconnection from our true selves, and increasing a desire to live more authentically and attuned with our uniqueness.

This lunation inspires us to explore how to link our self-expression to a social need, to think beyond ourselves and our personal interests, and focus on what we can give back to others. It will invite us to reflect on the connection between individual creativity and collective needs, and on how we can channel our creativity in a way that benefits, involves, and impacts others, adding value to our community while generating feelings of personal satisfaction.
