Full Moon in Capricorn: Exposing Uncomfortable Truths

 

During a Full Moon, the light of the Sun fully illuminates the Moon and allows us to gain awareness of something that is usually unconscious and hidden from our sight. At this time of the month, we have an opportunity to see something we could not see before: we can see ourselves in a new light and see our reality more clearly. Emotions are heightened when the Moon is Full: what is unresolved comes to the surface to be released and cleared throughout the second half of the lunar cycle, while the momentum decreases as the Moon wanes.

The Capricorn Full Moon brings, once again, the spotlight on the Cancer-Capricorn polarity, the family axis, linked with the journey of maturation, the journey of becoming an emotional adult, the journey of becoming self-responsible. This Capricorn Full Moon represents the completion of a chapter of our maturation journey and, because of the tight connection between the Moon and Pluto, is likely to reveal to us something about ourselves we were unaware of, that is likely to be uncomfortable to see. This event offers us chances to access a deeper understanding of the purpose of what happened in the past weeks and months and encourages us to make changes that were long due.

 

The activation of the 29º: Breaking Point

 

The second Full Moon in Capricorn of 2024 happens on the last degree of the sign. The 29º degree of any sign, technically called the “anaretic degree”, represents a powerful point of the Zodiac wheel. When this point is activated by a transit or event, it indicates that we are about to complete a learning process, an evolutionary journey: it marks a time when issues often reach their breaking point and everything becomes more extreme.

The 29º is now being activated by both the Full Moon in Capricorn and Neptune in Pisces, which stationed retrograde, also on the anaretic degree, at the beginning of the month. The double activation of this point underlines the pervasive sense of instability and uncertainty, the feeling that we can’t go on as we have always done, and the sensation that something big is about to shift in an irreversible and drastic way.

 

Pluto retrograde at 0º of Aquarius: Collective Initiation

 

The 0º degree is now also activated by both Pluto in Aquarius and Mars in Gemini. This degree represents the very beginning of a new process, the seed phase of a project or idea, pure potential, something that has just started and that we know nothing about just yet. When planets are placed on the 0º of a sign, they are starting a new, unfamiliar, evolutionary journey.

Pluto’s placement at 0º Aquarius and in retrograde motion suggests that we are also going through a massive collective initiation: we are about to begin a completely new learning process, however, some purging needs to happen for us to do so. Since Pluto is retrograde and is going to come back to Capricorn for one last time between September and November, it will be necessary to take a step back and solve unfinished business before we can move forward and close this current cycle. Many of us are recognizing that something we thought we already healed or solved is not actually healed. Around this time, we have opportunities to gain awareness of what work still needs to be done and take responsibility for it.

Full Moon conjunct Pluto: Feeling Unprocessed Pain

 

The Capricorn Full Moon tightly conjunct retrograde Pluto at 0º Aquarius brings to completion a journey of psychological and emotional transformation. This event shines a light in the shadows and offers us opportunities to gain awareness of what attachments have to be released and what needs to drastically shift in order for us to mature.
Pluto, the Lord of the Underworld, the force of evolution, always calls for radical transformation. The current astrological configuration highlights the necessity of structurally transforming both our inner and outer reality, allowing what has run its course to die, and releasing our reliance on old coping strategies and ways of being.

Unprocessed psychological and emotional pain is likely to come up around this time, asking for our full presence, asking to be felt without judgment, and with compassion. These days, we have an opportunity to become aware of our defense mechanisms, of how we avoid feeling, and of those manipulative strategies we employ to have our needs met without having to be vulnerable. 

This Full Moon conjunct with Pluto allows us to see the deeper evolutionary intentions and lessons behind repetitive cycles and patterns we continuously get caught in and invites us to recognize what needs to change within ourselves in order to have different experiences.

 

Full Moon square Chiron, sextile Neptune, trine Uranus and Mars

 

Both the Sun and the Full Moon are squaring Chiron at 23º of Aries, about to station retrograde in just a few days. This T-square indicates an increase in feelings of inner tension and suggests a sense of urgency relative to dealing with unresolved wounds from our past that are holding us back in the present. The activation of Chiron, a celestial body connected with the archetype of the wounded healer, our deepest vulnerabilities, and feelings of rejection and non-belonging, is another indicator of the necessity to take care of unprocessed emotional pain from our past. This configuration reminds us that we have the right to exist, we have the right to have needs, and we are worthy of being fully seen.

The Full Moon is forming a sextile to Neptune in Pisces. This alignment supports our capacity to set boundaries that honor our sensitivity and reminds us of the importance of being compassionate with both ourselves and others. The Capricorn Full Moon also trines Uranus at 27º of Taurus and sextiles Mars at 0º of Gemini. These aspects add more dynamism to the current planetary configuration, support our willingness to make changes and explore new solutions to the issues we are facing, and inspire us to assert ourselves and share our needs and desires from a vulnerable and grounded place.

The 29º of Capricorn corresponds to the Sabian Symbol for Capricorn 30, which is “a secret meeting of men responsible for executive decisions in world affairs”. The activation of this point underlines the fact that we are going through a massive collective transition and a collective shift in consciousness is necessary. This Sabian Symbol, together with the prominence of Pluto, highlights the theme of secrecy as well as the need to be aware of the link between power and responsibility, to be accountable for our choices especially when these have a significant impact on other people.

While in the collective things are happening behind the scenes that most of us are unaware of, many people need to make radical decisions at this point in their personal lives. All of us are being called to take responsibility to step into our power and recognize what needs to change in order for us to do so. This symbol reminds us of the value of confidentiality and discretion, which are necessary in certain situations, and invites us to reflect on our relationship to both power and responsibility.

 

Full Moon in Capricorn: Grieving the Fantasy

 

Saturn is the planetary ruler of the Capricorn Full Moon and his condition gives us more information about the energy of this event. Now in Pisces and in retrograde motion, Saturn is slowly moving toward a square with Jupiter in Gemini, which is going to be exact in August.

Saturn’s condition can be an invitation to recognize where we might have built something based on an illusion or a delusion, on faulty foundations. It can be an invitation to reflect on whether we may be stuck in fantasy or avoiding responsibility, expecting that we will be magically provided with what we desire yet unwilling to do the mundane, necessary, unglamorous work to bring our dreams and visions into the material reality.

For some of us, this Capricorn Full Moon could bring a painful but needed reality check. If this is the case, we have to make sure we are taking time to feel our pain, taking time to grieve our losses, even when we are only losing a fantasy we have projected meaning upon.
