On June 21, 10:58 AM ET, the Sun leaves Gemini and enters Cancer, and the Solstice marks the start of a new season. Cancer season 2023 brings us on a journey through time, offering us an invitation to gain better awareness of our emotional needs, refine our capacity to clearly express them, explore the link between our past and our present, and prioritize self-care and self-nurturance.
This shift will be relevant for everyone, but it will be particularly impactful for those of us who were born with placements in Cardinal signs. Those of us who feel the beginning of Cancer season more strongly will have chances to gain clearer awareness of where they are at in their emotional maturation journeys and deepen their capacity to nurture themselves and receive nurturance from others.

Solstices and Equinoxes are portals of change: these events have been celebrated, revered, and studied since ancient times. Numerous temples and monuments in all locations of Earth have been built in alignment with the Sun’s position on Solstices and Equinoxes, as our ancestors were well aware of the significance and value of these days.
Cancer Season 2023: Connecting with Our Roots
From an Astrological standpoint, the Sun moving from Gemini to Cancer brings the light of our awareness from our mind to our emotional body, encouraging us to connect with our heart and let ourselves feel our feelings.
Cancer is a Cardinal sign: like all signs of this modality, it is connected with a new beginning, a new evolutionary process, and a new chapter of our growth. Cardinal energy is one of renewal, regeneration, and wide-eyed excitement: the future is unknown and we are facing a myriad of possibilities, multitudes of potential doors are opening in front of us.

Cancer season offers us an invitation to gain better awareness of our emotional needs and of what helps us self-regulate. It is an opportunity to focus on healing our relationship with our past and with our family and develop a stronger connection to our roots.
Cancer Season 2023: Transits and Lunations
During Cancer season 2023, we are going to experience a Full Moon in Capricorn and a New Moon in Cancer. The Full Moon in Capricorn, happening on July 3, shines a light on the necessity to find a better balance between taking care of our mundane responsibilities, commitment, and duties, and taking care of our emotions, managing domestic matters, and spending time with our close ones.
As with every Full Moon, this lunation will facilitate clarity and bring up something that needs to be addressed, acknowledged, or released. This lunation marks a culmination point in our emotional maturation process and encourages us to find more harmony between focusing on building external security and focusing on cultivating internal security.
The New Moon in Cancer of July 17 is happening simultaneously with the shift of the Nodal Axis from Taurus and Scorpio to Aries and Libra. The Sun and the Moon in the late degrees of Cancer will be opposite Pluto, trine Neptune, sextile Uranus, and squaring the Nodes.
This configuration suggests that, during the upcoming lunar cycle, we could feel a significant amount of tension building up and find it hard to release it or harness it creatively. Nonetheless, there will be opportunities for redemption, healing, and self-forgiveness, as indicated by the trine between Sun, Moon, and Neptune. The opposition to Pluto will invite intense emotional releases and cathartic moments while the sextile with Uranus will facilitate change and inspire a curious and open-minded attitude toward new possibilities.
The Sun in aspect to Saturn, Jupiter, and Chiron
During his journey through Cancer, the Sun will also align with Saturn in Pisces, Jupiter in Taurus, and Chiron in Aries.
The Sun-Saturn trine, exact on June 28, facilitates self-discipline, self-responsibility, and pursuits that require consistency. The influence of Saturn inspires us to create new structures or redefine existing ones in a way that allows our creativity to thrive.
Perfecting on July 1, the Sun-Jupiter sextile adds a buoyant, optimistic, and generous quality to our days. This aspect supports our confidence and creativity as well as our capacity to take advantage of any opportunity for growth and expansion that may arise.
On July 12, the Sun-Chiron square goes exact. Around this time, we could have chances to access wounds related to feeling unseen, uncared for, or having our vulnerability used against us. Opportunities for healing will be available, and we could have chances to access and release emotions that we weren’t able to process in the past.

This time of the year invites reflection about what home and family mean to us. The sign of Cancer is connected to our relationship to the feeling of home, and to both our inner child and our inner mother archetypes. The beginning of Cancer season brings the spotlight to the importance of honoring our past, our roots, and our lineage while staying connected to our inner source of love, comfort, and nourishment.

This transit represents an invitation to notice in what ways we may still, consciously or unconsciously, try to outsource our safety, making someone else responsible for it, and find a better balance between relying on self-regulation and relying on co-regulation in moments of heightened emotional stress.
