On July 17, 01:25 PM —

On July 17, 2023, 2:31 PM ET, we experience a New Moon at 24º55’ of the sign of Cancer. This lunation opens a window to our Soul, a window to our inner world, and invites us to connect with the inner source of nurturance, comfort, and safety. Just a couple of hours later, the Lunar Nodes change signs: the North Node enters Aries and the South Node enters Libra, beginning a new collective chapter of evolutionary growth centered around developing healthy interdependence and deepening our trust in our instinct and our desires.

This lunation will be particularly relevant for those of us who were born with planets or angles in the late degrees of Cardinal signs. The individuals personally impacted by the Cancer New Moon will be offered opportunities to deepen their awareness of their emotional makeup and work towards embodying a more profound feeling of internal safety and security.

We invite you to watch our hour long video on our YouTube channel together with Nina where she walks us through the powerful energies of this New Moon in Cancer.

New Moon in Cancer: Feel Without Thinking

New Moons represent the beginning of the lunar month: they bring an energy of renewal and renovation into our lives, inviting us to plant seeds and set intentions for the weeks ahead. On New Moons, the Sun and the Moon are conjunct from our perspective on Earth: they form a 0 degrees angle, occupying the same degree of the same zodiac sign.

This month, the Moon meets the Sun in the lunar domicile, the Cardinal Water sign of Cancer. Both the Moon and Cancer correlate to our experience of home, childhood, and nurturance: they are very subjective archetypes that have to do with our personal and emotional interpretation of our experiences. They are associated with our emotional memory, our emotional nature, and our emotional self-awareness, as well as with how our early life experiences shaped our emotional makeup and keep impacting us today.

When the Moon is in her home sign, we are encouraged to reclaim the power of our sensitivity and vulnerability. We are likely to feel more emotional around this time: the Cancer New Moon will offer us opportunities to gain a deeper understanding of our emotions and our emotional needs and refine our ability to meet them and express them to others. These days, allow your emotions to flow, sit with them, and feel them without thinking, without trying to rationalize or intellectualize them.

New Moon in Cancer: Finding Home Within, Becoming the Mother

During the upcoming lunar cycle, domestic matters, family dynamics, and the need to grow in emotional self-awareness will come to the forefront. The following weeks will offer us opportunities to make necessary changes at home, in family relationships, and in how we nurture and care for both ourselves and others.

The Cancer New Moon begins a month centered around working on our relationship with the mother archetype and deepening our relationship with our inner maternal figure. We offer us opportunities to cultivate feelings of internal security and access the inner source of nurturance and care that is always available.

This lunation invites us to connect with both our inner child and our inner mother and develop more emotional intimacy with ourselves. These days and weeks, we will have chances to deepen our capacity to embrace our vulnerability and our sensitivity. We will also have opportunities to offer compassion and care to ourselves while we navigate the journey of gaining awareness of how we haven’t grown up emotionally yet and we acknowledge the work that still needs to be done.

New Moon opposite Pluto & trine Neptune

The Sun and the Moon in Cancer are opposing retrograde Pluto in the late degrees of Capricorn. Oppositions tend to shed light on something previously unclear, bringing clarity, while emphasizing the need to strive for balanced expression of the opposite energies at play. The Sun, Moon, and Pluto alignment could facilitate new insights about the impact of unmet emotional needs and unhealed childhood wounds.

Around this time, we may have opportunities to observe indirect, sneaky, or manipulative ways we are used to relying on in order to try to have our needs met or get others to make us feel safe, wanted, and secure. During the upcoming lunar cycle, we will have chances to become aware of and work on transforming subconscious patterns of behaviors that represent a reaction to past emotional experiences.

The New Moon is in a trine aspect to retrograde Neptune in Pisces. This configuration will remind us of the importance of self-compassion and self-forgiveness and invite us to be gentle with ourselves as we go through our healing process, which is often messy and uncomfortable.

New Moon sextile Uranus & square Chiron

The Sun and the Moon in Cancer are forming a sextile to Uranus in Taurus. The activation of Uranus will increase our openness toward change during the upcoming lunar cycle, support our capacity to access an objective awareness of our emotional reality, and inspire us to take action in the direction of our visions and dreams for the future.

The New Moon is squaring Chiron in Aries, another indicator of the prominence of the theme of healing old emotional wounds and becoming aware of dysfunctional coping strategies that we began to rely on in our childhood. These days and weeks, we may be challenged to confront wounds, fears, and insecurities that are hindering our self-confidence, our ability to assert ourselves healthily, and our capacity to express our true selves freely and spontaneously.

New Moon Square the Nodal Axis: Karmic Shifts

The Sun, the Moon, and Pluto are all squaring the Nodal Axis. The Nodes are still at 0º of Taurus and Scorpio: the North Node is about to enter Aries and the South Node is about to enter Libra.

The Nodes’ shift of signs will bring to the forefront the necessity to work towards establishing a healthy interdependence in our connections, developing more trust in our instinct and desires, and moving forward in our self-actualization journey. Instead of investing all our energy in relationships, seeing them as the answer for every issue we may have, the North Node in Aries encourages us to turn towards ourselves and commit to watering our own garden and honoring our personal needs and desires first.

When planets square the Nodes, they point at skipped developmental steps, indicating energies that need to be fully integrated and embodied at this point of our evolutionary journey. The fact that the Nodes are also changing signs as the New Moon takes place suggests that this New Moon has a strong karmic relevance and can correspond to key life shifts and lessons for many of us.

Planets in Cancer squaring the Nodal Axis point at the need to deepen our emotional self-awareness, understand how our old family experiences still impact us and become more emotionally secure rather than seeking reassurance, safety, and validation outwardly.

The Moon square the Nodes invites us to learn to nurture ourselves, practice being authentically vulnerable, and become conscious of automatic habits and patterns of reaction that represent an old coping or protection strategy. The Sun square the Nodes encourages us to work on blockages that prevent us from being creative, being visible, and being fully and authentically expressed as unique and whole individuals.

New Moon in Cancer: Window to our Inner World

This New Moon in the lunar domicile opens a window to our inner world, encouraging us to connect with an inner feeling of home and safety and to commit to learning to nurture ourselves as we wish we were nurtured in our childhood. Our reparenting journey will be front and center these days, as we are being offered an invitation to deepen our connection to both our inner child and our inner mother.

Around this time, we will have opportunities to observe how displaced emotions from our childhood are showing up in our adult life, what is truly getting activated by the triggers we experience, and when our inner child is taking the lead without us noticing.

The Cancer New Moon offers us an invitation to practice self-nurturance, self-love, and self-acceptance. This lunation invites us to commit to loving and caring for ourselves in the places where we are still developmentally stuck and emotionally immature, rather than judging ourselves for not being yet where we wish to be.

Tell us what you think

WE LOVE READING YOUR STORIES!

  • This pretty much covers what I’m going through in my life right now. Last month my husband said he wanted a separation and I moved out and am staying with my daughter and 2 grandchildren. I’m dealing with it pretty well, just now I’m learning to do things for myself instead of for everyone else. This is my time to live and figure out who I am.

    • Lynn, I send you love and light in your journey. I understand how a change in our thinking patterns is difficult to learn to take care or ourself first. I am married, but out of self preservation, I chose to take the journey to take care of me first. It is a learning curve! Lol! I have confidence in you as a woman. Take it one day at a time, set an intention each day, and begin a gratitude journal. It will change your life. Blessings, Karen

  • Thank you, I do still react with childhood mentality sometimes and will have that mind set when things arise. I am trying to free myself from type of behavior.

  • Love your work and your content.
So inspirational and learn so much from this.
Look forward to seeing your emails and posts.
Thank you for everything that you do 🙏🏼

  • After watching the YouTube video and now reading this article, I am on a journey to becoming more self aware. I’m seeking my own awareness of the triggers that my inner child is still suffering with. Both Cancer and Capricorn energies have certainly been impactful so far for me in 2023, yet I’m open to ‘walk into the cave’ to receive my blessings from Mother Earth. Thank you Moon Omens, it is welcomed and appreciated ✨✨✨

  • We can feel the effects of the moon and planets, through our changing emotions. It is wonderful to have this work, to decipher and offer a reference, to the happenings around and within us 💛
