On May 3, 11:11 AM —
On May 5, 1:33 PM ET, we will experience a Full Moon Lunar Eclipse at 14º57’ Scorpio, which is the second and final Eclipse of the current season. This event, conjunct the South Node of the Moon, offers us a clear invitation to close cycles and release the past. This Lunar Eclipse will provide opportunities to clean our psychic closet, shed old identities, and face our inner demons.
The Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Scorpio will be powerfully felt by everyone, but it will be especially relevant for those who were born with personal placements near the 14º of Fixed signs. Those who are more heavily influenced by the Eclipse will find themselves standing at the threshold of a new phase of their lives and their empowerment journey. They could experience endings, transformative transitions, and intense metamorphoses as they are called to close the door on a significant chapter of their path and release outdated coping strategies and attachments.
Lunar Eclipses: Moments of Completion, Dissolution, and Culmination
Lunar Eclipses mark pivotal moments of culmination, maturation, and release and come with a potent energy of dissolution and completion. They are special types of Full Moons that occur when the Sun and the Moon oppose each other close to the Lunar Nodes. The Lunar Nodes are the two opposing points of intersection between the Moon’s orbit and the Ecliptic, the apparent path of the Sun from our perspective on Earth, and in Astrology they are symbols of karma and destiny.
The upcoming Eclipse is a Penumbral Lunar Eclipse. During Penumbral Eclipses, the Moon is partially covered by the Earth’s shadow. Penumbral Eclipses’ effects tend to be less intense than Total Eclipses’ because the alignment between the Earth, the Sun, and the Moon is not perfect.
We invite you to watch our hour long video on our YouTube channel together with Nina where she walks us through the powerful energies of this Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Scorpio.
Lunar Eclipse conjunct the South Node: Cleaning our Psychic Closet
The Lunar Eclipse in Scorpio is happening on the South Node of the Moon. The South Node is associated with past karma, attachments, and familiar habits. It corresponds to where we come from, something we know well, and tendencies we naturally express and unconsciously rely upon.
When Eclipses occur close to the South Node, they bring up old psychic and emotional content that we haven’t fully felt, integrated, or processed in the past, and they offer us an opportunity to do so now. Eclipses conjunct the South Node remind us of how all endings are also portals to new chapters of our lives. To move forward, we sometimes need to spend time cleaning our psychic closet. Both the South Node and the sign of Scorpio suggest that purging and letting go may be needed, at this point, for transformation to happen.
This Eclipse is the last one in Scorpio until 2031. For this reason, it carries a particularly strong energy of dissolution and release. This event could facilitate a new and deeper understanding of what we have been working on during the entire cycle of Eclipses in Taurus and Scorpio, which may now come full circle.
Lunar Eclipse in Scorpio: Deep Pondering on Power and Attachment
Full Moons are always a time filled with revelations and clarity. Around this time of the month, things come to a head, and emotions run high. This Full Moon Lunar Eclipse could facilitate significant insights around our relationship with sexuality, the way we show up in intimacy, and the way we manage finances and resources. These themes could be highlighted and brought into the spotlight.
The activation of the Taurus-Scorpio axis suggests that the emphasis will be on themes of attachment, sexuality, and power. During Taurus season, a time of the year focused on cultivating self-worth and resourcefulness, a Lunar Eclipse in Scorpio invites us to confront those patterns, emotions, and habits that prevent us from becoming self-resourced, contributing to creating toxic attachments and enmeshments that don’t nourish us, but instead drain our life force.
Around this time, we may have opportunities to confront the deeper emotional causes behind any resistance to change we may experience and work on subconscious fears and old wounds, particularly regarding intimacy, that keep us stuck and stagnant. Intense emotional releases and cathartic experiences will be more accessible these days.
The Lunar Eclipse in Scorpio could bring deep and lasting transformation to our lives. This event offers us an invitation to identify and work on transforming coping mechanisms, survival strategies, and patterns that we formed, typically in our childhood, as a reaction to feelings of powerlessness and loss of control. In particular, we will have opportunities to understand more deeply the mechanics behind our attachment patterns and work on healing the wounds behind them.
Lunar Eclipse opposite Uranus: Expect the Unexpected
Uranus is conjunct the Sun and opposing the Moon. The activation of Uranus suggests a strong degree of unpredictability and potential for unexpected changes, already high during Eclipse season. Uranus is the planet of awakenings, flashes of genius, quantum leaps, and breakthroughs, and is also connected to sudden shocks and disruptions. The activation of Uranus represents an opportunity for us to look at those places where our intellectual knowledge or understanding isn’t integrated into our body.
The Moon-Uranus opposition can correlate with insights and moments of clarity that allow us to see our emotional reality from a detached and objective perspective. The increased ability to disidentify from the immediacy of what we are feeling and experiencing could facilitate breakthroughs and new understandings, maybe a clearer awareness about our role in patterns and dynamics that keep repeating in our lives.
When Uranus is in aspect with the Moon, there is also a higher likelihood of experiencing something unexpected that throws us suddenly out of a comfort zone, interrupting feelings of safety, comfort, and familiarity. For this reason, around this time, we may be required to welcome change and step into the unknown before we feel ready for it.
Lunar Eclipse opposite Mercury & trine Mars
Mercury is also in Taurus, in retrograde motion, conjunct the Sun and the North Node, and opposing the Moon. The involvement of Mercury is another element pointing to the increase of mental activity already reflected by the prominence of Uranus.
Both Mercury and Uranus opposing the Moon indicates a tendency to rationalize our emotions and make sense of them through the intellect rather than giving ourselves space to feel our feelings and let them move. This could contribute to deepening the split between our minds and our bodies. It could also give us new insights and understanding about our emotional makeup that could be helpful for us to develop a deeper relationship with ourselves.
The Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Scorpio is forming a harmonious trine to Mars in Cancer. This aspect will support us in the process of learning how to express our emotions, how to assert ourselves maturely, and how to take actions aligned with how we are feeling on a moment-to-moment basis.
Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Scorpio: Stepping into our True Power
Pluto is the modern planetary ruler of the Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Scorpio, and his condition gives us more information about the energy of this lunation. Pluto is at 0º Aquarius and stationed retrograde just a few days prior to the Eclipse, on May 1. Pluto being now closer to Earth than usual is another indicator of the strong prominence of Scorpionic energy at this time.
Pluto stationary retrograde around the time of the Lunar Eclipse in Scorpio will contribute to unearthing buried emotions, suppressed fears, traumas, and unconscious content that we are now ready to integrate. The fact that Pluto is in Aquarius and Uranus, Aquarius’ modern ruler, is also prominent on this lunation indicates opportunities to reach a new, objective awareness of these issues and see them from a higher vantage point.
Following the wave of Scorpionic energy available to us will guide us to a path of descent, a path of self-dismantling, and a path of self-remembrance, reminding us that a lot of letting go is required in order for us to step into and fully embody our true power. This Lunar Eclipse is a time to close cycles, to remove what does not work from our lives, to let go of toxic patterns, disempowering attachments, old identities, and inauthentic ways of being. It is a time to look at ourselves in the mirror and truly see who has been hiding beneath the facade we have been keeping up for so long.

Lots of great energy here moon omens ♏️ love your articles too! However- Scorpio is ruled by Pluto not Mars ✨
Thank you for your kind words Tara! Yes, Scorpio is ruled by Pluto in modern astrology and in traditional astrology it is ruled by Mars, so Scorpio can be considered to be ruled by both 🙂
I have been cutting psychic ties, cleansing & releasing myself of old attachments & thoughts. I have stepped into new territory allowing spirit to guide me & teach to be ready for a new chapter on my life. All this has been a long time to become.
