On October 6, 07:05 AM ET, we experience a New Moon at 13°24’ of Libra, happening in conjunction with Mars and retrograde Mercury. Just a few hours later, at 2:29 PM ET, another relevant cosmic shift takes place: Pluto stations direct at 24°18’ Capricorn after being in retrograde motion since the end of April.

The New Moon in Libra highlights the importance of seeing other people as our sacred mirrors, of finding harmony between giving and receiving, of creating relationships based on reciprocity. Meanwhile, Pluto stationing direct is likely to catalyze transformative events that speed up the pace of our growth during the upcoming lunar cycle.

To celebrate the arrival of this New Moon in Libra, on October 6 at 9:45 PM ET, we are hosting Global Live New Moon in Libra Meditation on our YouTube channel. We invite you to join us, and invite others to meditate together with us. Tap here to find our scheduled live meditation.

New Moon in Libra: Forming New Relationships & Reshaping Existing Connections

Each month, we have an opportunity for a fresh start: New Moons are a time to plant seeds for the future: they begin a new chapter of our lives. The New Moon represents the first phase of the lunar cycle, and it is a perfect moment for intention setting. For the upcoming two weeks, the focus is on spontaneous and intuitive action: we generate a momentum that culminates with the Full Moon.

Libra is the opposite and complementary archetype to Aries, the sign of the self, of instinct, of pure impulse and unpremeditated action. Libra’s aim is the initiation of relationships, and through relationships we learn to connect to others in conditions of equality, to harmonize and balance the different facets of our lives, to secure reciprocity, peace, and justice.

We have a chance to form new relationships, and to reassess and reshape our existing ones. This New Moon sets in motion a journey of discovery of the way we want to be in connection, and of the roles other people play in our lives.

The Delicate Balance between Giving and Receiving

Libra is about learning through the Other, gaining awareness of what we lack, allowing ourselves to receive from others, and becoming aware of what we can give. The Moon in Libra shows us how our relationships represent a source of emotional security: forming and maintaining equal and fair connections with others gives us a sense of safety and comfort.

Having four celestial bodies traveling through Libra highlights the value of active listening and learning through comparison. While comparing ourselves to others in an unconscious way can indeed be detrimental, there is a conscious kind of comparison that encourages self-awareness and recognizes the value of differences and contrast. This type of awareness ultimately allows us to harmonize with others without compromising our individuality.

New Moon in Libra conjunct Mars & retrograde Mercury

The New Moon in Libra is tightly conjunct Mars and in wider conjunction to retrograde Mercury. These alignments increase our drive to actively generate conditions of harmony and fairness and our willingness to fight to defend peace and promote justice.

Sun conjunct Mars supports our physical stamina, our creativity, and our determination: having a physical outlet for this energy is key to channeling it constructively without getting carried away by it. Moon conjunct Mars reflects some defensiveness and a tendency to take things personally, but it also supports our capacity for emotional resilience, and increases our impulse to protect those who need it.

Mars is also an archetype linked to separation: the ruler of Aries helps us cut cords from what is no longer aligned with our path, from what no longer nourishes us. The presence of Mars in the configuration may help us overcome any tendency to avoid speaking our truth and keep an inauthentic sense of peace just for the sake of maintaining connections.

Mercury’s retrograde cycle in Libra represents a time to review our way of communicating, thinking, being in connection with others, and perceiving relationships. The presence of Mercury supports diplomatic conversations and active listening during the upcoming lunar cycle, and it can reflect a tendency to overthink and intellectualize our feelings.

New Moon & Mars opposite Chiron & trine Saturn

There is an opposition, a 180° angle, between the Sun, the Moon, Mars and retrograde Chiron in Aries. When Chiron opposes personal planets, we have a chance to become aware of our own wounds by seeing them mirrored in other people. With oppositions, something tends to be perceived in others before we can perceive it in ourselves. During these days, our actions, our self-expression, or our emotions may trigger someone. Their pain may inform us of what is still unresolved within ourselves, in particular by showing us whether we are being excessively self-centered or excessively accommodating.

We are also experiencing an harmonic 120° trine between the New Moon, Mars, and Saturn in Aquarius, which supports our discipline and increases our motivation to take action on our visions and dreams for the future. Saturn in Aquarius is innovative and futuristic: its aim is to work as a community to build new social structures and improve the existing systems. This alignment supports our endurance, our capacity to collaborate and work as a team, our ability to commit to something for the long haul, and to take responsibility for our desires.

Venus conjunct the South Node: Karmic Meetings & Fated Encounters

The planetary ruler of the Libra New Moon is Venus, currently at 28° Scorpio and conjunct the South Node of the Moon at 2°of Sagittarius. The South Node is a point in space correlated with our past, with something we are very familiar with, with tendencies that we naturally express. In Astrology, Venus is associated with matters of the heart, with social interactions, with finances, with our values, and with the foundation of our sense of self-worth.

Venus conjunct the South Node reflects strong cravings for romance and intimacy, and a tendency to identify with our relationships, with our existing beliefs, and with our value system. During the upcoming lunar cycle, we may feel tempted to establish or maintain connections to gain a sense of safety, belonging, and emotional security. Venus is also separating from a square to Jupiter in Aquarius, highlighting the risks of over-indulgence and over-spending, while expanding our love and social life.

When the nodal axis is activated by Venus, there is a high possibility of karmic and fated encounters. As the pressure to resolve unconcluded issues increases, people from our past may return, or we may meet someone we feel strangely familiar with, even if we have never seen each other before. Throughout the upcoming lunar month, we may have opportunities to gain enough awareness to unravel repetitive relationship patterns and break cycles we seem to be stuck in.

Pluto stations direct in Capricorn: Breaking Down Conditioning & Oppressive Systems

From our perspective on Earth, Pluto has been in retrograde motion since April and from now on will slowly begin moving forward again. Pluto in Capricorn is a long-term transit. It began in 2008 and will last until 2023, bringing forth the dismantling of obsolete and oppressive systems while catalyzing the breakdown of the cultural, familial, and societal conditioning we have been internalizing throughout our lives.

Plutonian transformations are raw and intense. When planets are stationary, their influence is more powerful: they are more likely to catalyze changes and unanticipated events. Pluto stationing direct simultaneously with the New Moon increases the chances of undergoing experiences of deep metamorphosis.

As the integration of the insights we received during the retrograde begins, occurrences and revelations may bring us out of our comfort zone and speed up our evolutionary pace by accelerating our deconditioning process.

New Moon in Libra: Maintaining Connections while Honoring our Individuality

When we don’t build a bond with ourselves and invest too much energy in our connections with others, crises can happen as a way to bring us back on track, and force us to establish adjustments. The New Moon and Mars in Libra are forming a quincunx, a 150° aspect of paradox and incongruence, with Uranus in Taurus: their alignment reflects the importance of cultivating relationships with others from an embodied place and a clear awareness of our self-worth.

The capacity to harmonize with people and attune to their reality is linked to the ability to cultivate an ongoing and honest relationship with ourselves. This includes being able to identify and honor our needs, desires, values, and boundaries. Going out of our way to make others feel satisfied and happy, to maintain peace, or to gain an illusory feeling of acceptance and belonging does not benefit anyone if in the process we lose ourselves.

This New Moon in Libra is bringing up any lack of coherence between our inner relationship with ourselves and the relationships we try to build with others. Due to the presence of Chiron opposing Sun, Moon, and Mars, we may feel that every time we express our feelings or assert our needs we are triggering someone. The upcoming lunar cycle may shed light on conditioning connected to the false belief that, if we desire to be in relationships with others, we can’t be fully expressed as individuals.
