On Jul 23, 10:36 PM ET, we experience a Full Moon at 1°25’ of the sign of Aquarius.
Full Moons take place when the Sun and the Moon are exactly opposing each other: the Moon in Aquarius now opposes the Sun in Leo and shines in the night sky, reflecting the maximum amount of sunlight. Their alignment brings revelations and breakthroughs: Full Moons always show us something we need to become aware of, promoting clarity and awareness. We now reap the rewards of our work and witness the maturation of the intentions we set two weeks ago on the New Moon in Cancer. At the same time, we experience the simultaneous culmination of a larger cycle that started six months ago, on February 11, with a New Moon in Aquarius.
The Full Moon taking place during the month of July is popularly known as the Buck Moon: at this time of the year, in the Northern Hemisphere, new antlers begin to emerge from the forehead of bucks. Male deers shed their antlers each year and grow new ones around this time, an event reminding us of our opportunities for cyclical regeneration. The Full Buck Moon in Aquarius is a moment of renewal inviting us to have the courage to keep growing, changing, and reinventing ourselves despite our fears.

The Leo-Aquarius Axis: Identity, Creativity, & Self-Expression
The Moon in Aquarius is creating an exact opposition, a 180° angle, to the Sun in Leo. In the Zodiac wheel, Leo and Aquarius are polar opposites: they both relate to the exploration of identity and creativity. Leo is about the full expression of the self and the discovery of personal identity through bold creativity. Aquarius is about self-discovery through association with a community of like minds. Personal creativity is now joined with others’ to foster collective progress and innovation and have a positive impact on humanity.
Around this Full Moon in Aquarius, we may experience a need to find a better balance between our obligations towards the groups and communities we are part of, and our desire to self-actualize and explore our creativity on our own terms. On the one hand, we may become aware of those ways in which we sacrifice our needs and desires to be accepted in a group or feel like we fit in. On the other hand, we may understand how, by being excessively concerned with personal issues, we preclude ourselves from being active participants in a community and generating positive change in the world.
Leo vs Aquarius: Present & Future
Leo, a Fixed Fire sign, is about expressing ourselves, living in the present moment, and making art for the sake of it: Leo teaches us to shine, to celebrate life, to honor the divine spark inside all of us, and simply appreciate the gift of being alive.
Aquarius, a Fixed Air archetype, has an intellectual approach to existence, and it is naturally future-oriented. This sign teaches us to use our creative energy to promote social progress, build innovative networks, and make the world better for everyone. Paradoxically, Aquarius also corresponds to the feeling of being an outsider and not fitting in anywhere, which is often what propels us to move away from the mainstream and create alternative systems.
While the Sun and Mars in Leo inspire us to self-express spontaneously and follow our heart’s desires, the Moon and Saturn in Aquarius invite us to consider the results of our actions on others. This lunation reminds us that we are not alone in the world, that we need connection, that our creative energy can have a greater purpose and generate an impact on the collective.
Full Buck Moon in Aquarius conjunct Pluto: Light in the Dark
The Full Buck Moon in Aquarius is in an out-of-sign separating conjunction with Pluto in Capricorn, reflecting an increasing emotional intensity and a strong urge to break away from the past. The previous New Moon in Cancer was opposing Pluto: issues and themes that emerged two weeks ago could now reach a breaking point. The Aquarius Full Moon conjunct Pluto illuminates the shadows of our society while allowing us to see how we have internalized the oppressive systems we have been exposed to and how we play out similar scripts within ourselves.
This cosmic event may highlight power, control, and manipulation dynamics, giving us a chance to become aware of emotional attachments and compulsive behaviors that we were previously unconscious of. If fears of abandonment and vulnerability emerge, we have the opportunity to choose how we respond to real or perceived threats. This Full Moon conjunct Pluto has the potential to promote a better understanding and awareness of our psychological make-up, of our habitual patterns of reaction, and of those automatic behaviors that keep holding us back from growing.
The Activation of Saturn – Uranus Themes
The modern planetary ruler of the Aquarius Full Moon is Uranus, while her ancient ruler is Saturn. Saturn is now retrograde in Aquarius while Uranus is in Taurus and they have been squaring each other for the whole year.
The Moon is approaching a conjunction to Saturn and a square to Uranus: during the next two days, it will activate the tension of their ongoing alignment, linked to the clash between past and future, tradition and innovation. These aspects remind us that expressing our emotions consciously and taking care of our inner state is our responsibility. If we repress our feelings, urges, desires, and needs, putting up a stoic facade no matter what, we will accumulate frustration, resentment, and anger that sooner or later will suddenly explode, generating chaos and crises to force a change.
Moreover, this Full Buck Moon is happening just 1° away from the 0° of Aquarius, where Jupiter and Saturn met in December last year, during the Solstice. Their ‘Great Conjunction’ started a new age of information, technology, and fast innovation. Themes that first began manifesting around that time could be activated again, culminate, or start unfolding in new ways.
Mercury opposite Pluto and trine Neptune: a New Understanding
Mercury is in Cancer and currently opposing Pluto in Capricorn, another aspect associated with revelations and representing the culmination of a cycle: institutional, familial, and personal secrets may come to light and the shadows coming with them exposed. During these days, we may feel blocked from freely expressing our feelings, emotions, and opinions. We may also experience polarization and power struggles linked to contrasting ideas and ways of perceiving reality.
At the same time, new information and insights are likely to come through: this alignment increases our capacity to self-analyze and make sense of how our minds work, so we may see aspects of ourselves or other people we hadn’t seen before. The supportive water trine between Mercury and Neptune in Pisces happening simultaneously helps us describe and verbalize what we feel. This aspect has the potential to help us express and conceptualize, maybe through some kind of artistic and creative expression, something that would be normally hard to describe and explain.
Venus and Mars opposite Jupiter: Harmonizing Contrasting Tendencies
As the Full Moon takes place, Venus and Mars are still conjunct, and they both oppose retrograde Jupiter, still in Pisces until July 28. Oppositions, once again, shed light on something we need to become aware of and invite us to harmonize contrasting tendencies. Around this time, we may realize where we have been too idealistic, and be reminded that if we only focus on the positive side of situations and people we may end up disappointed.
Venus is already in Virgo, highlighting the importance of discernment and discrimination in our relationship and financial choices: she wants us to keep our standards high, ground in the awareness of our self-worth, beware of impulsive investments and avoid settling for less. The Venus-Jupiter alignment promotes a lighthearted and fun-loving attitude, while it can reflect a tendency to exaggerate and overindulge in life’s pleasures.
Mars in Leo emphasizes our need for creative freedom, passion, and romance: the opposition to Jupiter increases our energy levels, our desire to express ourselves, our capacity to get things done, and go after what we want with confidence. The danger of this aspect is being excessively optimistic and overestimating our or other people’s potential.

Full Buck Moon in Aquarius: the Courage to be Ourselves
The Moon in Aquarius can correspond to a sense of emotional alienation from the environment and a feeling that sudden crises can shake up our reality at any moment. The detached and objective approach towards feelings that Aquarius is known for has the potential to help us observe our emotions from a distance without getting too involved in drama and conflict.
When the Aquarius archetype is emphasized, as it is happening now, it is an invitation to liberate ourselves from the old, from stagnation, from what got crystallized and doesn’t allow us to grow and evolve anymore. The Full Buck Moon in Aquarius highlights the collective need to break free from constrictions and generate movement, change, and innovation.
The activation of the Leo-Aquarius axis urges us to find the courage to move away from the known, to embrace and express our individuality boldly, to dare to be ourselves and stand out from the crowd.
