On August 4, 04:16 PM —

On August 4, 07:12 AM EST, we experience a New Moon at 12º33’ of Leo, beginning a month centered around showing up authentically in life, recognizing the power of our presence, and allowing ourselves to be seen as we are. The Leo New Moon inspires us to connect with our courage and our leadership skills and motivates us to step into the limelight without asking for permission.

This lunation is particularly relevant for the individuals born with planets or angles around the 12º of Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius). Those of us personally impacted by the Leo New Moon will have opportunities to renew their relationship to creativity and visibility and begin a new chapter of their self-actualization journey. They will have chances to recognize and address visibility fears and blocks and will be reminded of the value of following their passion and joy.

We invite you to watch our hour long video on our YouTube channel together with Nina where she walks us through the powerful energies of this New Moon in Leo.

New Moon in Leo: Opportunity to Begin Anew

New Moons mark new beginnings and remind us that life goes on and opportunities to start anew continuously arise. These events come with an energy of renewal and renovation and invite us to plant seeds and set intentions for the weeks ahead. On a New Moon, the Sun and the Moon are conjunct from our perspective on Earth and they form a 0º angle, meeting on the same degree of the same Zodiac sign: this month, the luminaries join forces in Leo.

In the Zodiac, Leo follows Cancer. After an introspective phase of evolution focused on developing emotional self-knowledge, embracing our vulnerability, and connecting with feelings of inner safety, the transition from Cancer to Leo offers us an invitation to leave our safe space, leave our nest, and pursue our creative self-actualization.

The Sun, Leo’s planetary ruler and the center of our Solar System, doesn’t ask for permission to shine. Celebrating life, following our joy, and honoring the unfolding of our creative expression are core teachings connected to the sign of Leo that will be front and center during the upcoming month.

New Moon in Leo: the Power of Presence

This New Moon in the sign of the Lion reminds us of the power of our presence, of being grounded in our bodies in the present moment, and of being fully aware of what is happening within us and all around us. The Leo New Moon inspires us to infuse passion into everything we do and invites us to be bold enough to show up in life with an open heart, to let love flow in and out freely.

The Leo New Moon begins a lunar cycle centered around the practice of showing up as we are and letting ourselves be seen: the upcoming month will be filled with opportunities to renovate our relationship to visibility, creativity, and self-expression. This event reminds us that we have the right to take up space: it motivates us to reclaim our place in the world and show up as ourselves today, without seeking external validation, and without making ourselves either bigger or smaller than we are.

New Moon sextile Jupiter and Mars: Dynamism and Confidence

The Sun and the New Moon are forming harmonious sextiles with both Jupiter and Mars in Gemini. Sextiles are 60° angles that connect planets transiting signs of the same polarity (yin or yang) and affine elements (fire/air or earth/water). The planets involved in a sextile trigger each other into action organically, enhancing each other’s qualities, and supporting our ability to create, recognize, and take advantage of opportunities. The combination of these energies promotes creative action and brings chances to learn without excessive effort.

The sextiles between the Sun, the New Moon, Jupiter, and Mars indicate that we are entering a very dynamic lunar month, filled with opportunities to learn, grow, and expand in new directions. These days, we have access to an extra boost of determination, assertiveness, and self-confidence. This configuration supports our willingness to make things happen, follow our hearts’ desires, and translate our visions and ideas into tangible action.

The Venus-Uranus Square: Honoring our True Values

As the New Moon in Leo takes place, Venus is in a very interesting condition. Venus is entering Virgo a few hours after the New Moon and is currently placed at 29º of Leo, forming a square to Uranus at 26º of Taurus, and a Yod with Neptune at 29º of Pisces and Pluto at 0º of Aquarius. She also forms a trine with Chiron in Aries.

It is interesting to notice that the 29º degree continues to be active as it has been throughout the entire month of July: this keeps bringing issues to a breaking point and offering us opportunities to close old cycles and solve unfinished business to make space for the new.

The Venus-Uranus square was exact on August 2 and is still active. This alignment marks a time filled with change in our romantic, social, and financial lives. The Venus-Uranus square ignites our desire for freedom and independence and stimulates us to stop being complacent and rebel from external expectations and pressures. This aspect has been inspiring us to honor our personal values, break free from ways of being and relating that represent a result of societal and familial programming, and discover what is true for ourselves.

The Yod to Venus: Fated Changes and Opportunities

Yods are aspect patterns consisting of two planets in a sextile aspect, in this case, Neptune and Pluto, both inconjunct with a third planet, in this case, Venus. While sextiles reflect a harmonious flow of energy between celestial bodies, inconjuncts or quincunxes connect planets transiting signs that have nothing in common: inconjuncts highlight the need to embrace paradox and recognize inner conflicts that keep us chronically stuck or cause us to self-sabotage.

When planets form Yods, also known as the “finger of god”, they mark times of destined events and shifts of fate. These aspect patterns exacerbate existing feelings of inner tension and pressure to inspire us to find ways to reconcile seemingly irreconcilable needs and desires. Learning to navigate ambiguity and complexity is essential to deal with yods constructively. These configurations push us to develop creativity, open-mindedness, and compassion for the paradoxes and the difficulties inherent in the human condition.

The planet at the apex, which is now Venus, is experiencing the strongest stress: this Yod increases our level of discomfort to force us to radically transform our approach to relationships of all kinds, as well as our relationship to money, receptivity, beauty, Nature, our bodies, and sensuality. Together with the Venus-Uranus square, this configuration highlights the transition we are currently experiencing in both relationship paradigms and the financial systems and pushes each of us to make necessary changes.

The Jupiter-Saturn square: Contraction and Expansion

As the Leo New Moon takes place, Jupiter in Gemini is approaching a square to retrograde Saturn in Pisces. Their square is going exact in two weeks, on August 19, which is when the Aquarius New Moon peaks. Nevertheless, it is already active and will continue to be for the rest of the calendar year, as Saturn and Jupiter remain within the orb of a square and perfect their alignment again in December.

Jupiter-Saturn squares highlight the ongoing dance between expansion and contraction. This alignment represents an opportunity to check in with reality and make sure that we have built a solid foundation that allows us to grow and expand as we aspire to. Saturn retrograde in Pisces could reveal to us what needs to be restructured and redefined to bring Jupiter’s ideas and visions down to earth. In the sign of Pisces, Saturn reminds us of the importance of spiritual integrity and maturity as the foundation for any kind of growth. This configuration could reveal to us how we still need to mature and how our attachment to existing beliefs and life philosophies may be holding us back from that.

New Moon in Leo: Look at the World with New Eyes

The New Moon in Leo begins a dynamic lunar month filled with opportunities to take action on our heart’s desires, explore new directions, and give a stage to our emotions. This event underlines the importance of being able to discern between our ego, our egoic needs, our defense mechanisms, and those identities we are attached to, and our true, essential Self, the core of our being.

The Leo New Moon reminds us of how what gives us energy and fills us with joy is inevitably connected with a higher purpose, with what we are here to do. These days, we are encouraged to connect with our inner fire, with the sacred flame within us, with the spark that moves us, and trust the direction toward which it takes us.

During the upcoming lunar cycle, we have an opportunity to focus on our self-actualization journey and deepen our connection with a sense of purpose that goes beyond ourselves and our personal satisfaction.
